Universal Home

I have a fun rhyme that I share with my kids before bed each night. It starts with the question, “How much do I love you?” Their response is, “Up to God.”

At first hearing this, it may be assumed that God is somewhere “up” there. However, it really means more than that. God is omnipresent. He is everywhere at the same time. He does not reside in the clouds. Our human barriers do not limit Him. Similarly, my love for my children is unconditional.

I expect that someday my kids will ask me where God lives. They may ask if God is somewhere up there.

I have learned that God is not just “out there”. He is everywhere, including “in here”. He is in my own person. When Jesus left this earth He said that His Holy Spirit would reside inside of me.

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you”
(John 14:16-17 NIV
).

God is always with me. He dwells in me by faith. I can exercise my faith to go deeper with God. I can search my soul and find out who I truly am in God.

God isn’t far away. He is here. It took me over thirty years to come to this place to accept that God is present everywhere at the same time. It gives me great comfort to know that although God is omnipresent, He is still accessible to me.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast (Psalm 139:7-10 NIV).
